Obama’s Voice Defies MLK’s ‘Dream’

As a politically independent average Joe, I believe the author articulated the innermost thoughts of salt-of-the-Earth Americans like myself who take responsibly in the jobs that we hold, raise polite children not to swear to express their feelings and generally go quietly about living a decent life.  The fact that any U.S. president would appear to be an Anti-American apologist for the very core values that make America great is deeply disturbing.  Further, that an Afro-American has been elected to the highest office in the land shows how far our county has come.  Yet, through his words, actions and policies, Mr. Obama has missed the most fundamental lesson of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech:

But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline.

America has survived civil war and world wars, social unrest and upheaval, economic downturns and all types of natural and manmade disasters.  It is a testament to the greatness of the American democracy that she can survive every dissenting voice even if it comes from a foul-mouthed U.S. president.
